Well, That Wasn't in the Diary

If you'd asked me what I did last week, I'd probably have said, "Not much." But then I looked back at my diary.

Blood tests. X-rays. A fibromyalgia flare-up that knocked me sideways before the week had really begun – I was ironing, for goodness' sake! Cancelled exercise classes because my body simply said, "Errr... what do you think you’re doing!" Oh, and a house viewing that didn't show up – yes, our house is up for sale – how rude! It was one of those weeks that reminded me that making plans and actually living them are often two completely different things.

Now, it wasn't all doom and gloom, far from it! There were some lovely highs too. I went out for dinner with my best friend at a local restaurant and, after we'd got a few moans and groans out of the way, we had a proper laugh, which, at its heart, really is the best medicine.

I nearly didn't go to my Pain Management class because I felt physically awful and wasn't in the right frame of mind after the ironing fiasco, but I'm so glad I did. Apparently, I wasn't my usual chatty self (more of a silent, slightly angry grump), but just getting out of the house and being around people who understood made a real difference.

Diary, tarot, jewellery, fibromyalgia

Every Sunday I like to do a little one-card tarot reading and last week I pulled the Page of Wands, which is often associated with new beginnings and enthusiasm. After the fibro flare, I remember thinking, "Enthusiasm? Seriously!?" I didn't feel like doing anything! But perhaps it meant something different. It gave me the time to be creative and finally knuckle down to working on my new-look website – a magasine of sorts.

It's no longer somewhere you book a treatment before popping in for a massage or facial. Instead, it's becoming a place to slow down, relax, reflect and, hopefully, leave feeling a little lighter than when you arrived. You can dip in and out of skincare, wellbeing, vintage treasures and, of course, A Year of Gentle Living. There are also links to the jewellery I'm selling on eBay and, more recently, Etsy. I still have plenty to list and, I have to admit, ahem... fitting that in around the cricket isn't always easy, you know (!).

One of the strangest moments of the week wasn't England beating India to go 2–1 up in the series (that was brilliant!). It was handing over the studio keys to You Little Beauty to my husband. The treatment room is now Dan's workspace. Of course, I feel sad that this chapter has come to an end, but I also know it's the right thing for me, for now.

Sometimes moving on isn't dramatic. Sometimes it's as simple as handing someone a set of keys and quietly realising that life has already begun writing the next chapter.

Wondering what card I pulled from the deck on Sunday for this week?
