The Winter Wellness Reset: Why Your Body Needs Extra Care This Season

Winter is officially here - the season of cold noses, hot wine (!), rosy cheeks, and let’s be honest… bodies that suddenly feel about 50% creakier than they did in September. Don’t worry, it’s not just you. Our muscles, joints and skin all behave differently in the colder months, and they need a little extra love to stay happy.

So let’s talk about what’s really going on and how I can help you feel human again!

Cold Weather = Tight, Grumpy Muscles

When temperatures drop, your body automatically tenses up to keep warm. Shoulders creep upwards, necks stiffen and lower backs do that lovely thing where they feel like they’ve been swapped out for a plank of wood. Regular massage encourages movement, eases tension around the joints, and helps your body feel more flexible again.

A good massage with Ginger & Sandalwood, helps by:

  • boosting circulation

  • warming and softening tight muscles

  • reducing stiffness and inflammation

  • calming the mind

Stiff Joints? Blame the Weather

Colder weather can make joints feel stiff, achy, or slow to move - especially first thing in the morning and you know that feeling when you stand up and sound like a bowl of Rice Krispies? Yep. I don’t want that for you. We need to get that blood pumping. When I was in hospital having my hysterectomy, I was told to squeeze my buttocks (the glutes, one of the largest muscle group in the body) and hold for a few seconds. Every time you contract your glutes, you’re basically giving your blood a “push” back up toward your heart. It’s like a mini circulation booster you can do anywhere to warm you up - sitting, standing, even hiding it when you’re in a boring meeting!

Now you’ve got your circulation warming your body, no need to sound like a bowl of Rice Krispies? When you get out of bed, stand tall and stretch your fingers up to the ceiling. Count to 10. Then tuck your chin into your neck and roll down and touch the floor with your fingers and then uncurl again. Do this very slowly and repeat five times. This will mobilise your spine, release neck and shoulder tension and help you to breath better (and better breathing = better circulation, better relaxation and better moods.)

Winter Skin: Dry, Dull and Needing TLC

Between cold winds outside and heating blasting inside, your skin may not have its best life this season.

Besides drinking lots of H20, facials are one of the best winter treats you can give yourself because they:

  • deeply hydrate dehydrated or dry skin

  • restore glow and softness

  • boost circulation in the face

  • help you feel instantly refreshed

Plus, there’s something magical about lying down, cosy and warm, while someone pampers your face. (Hi, that someone is me!)
